| I am sure we are all excited about the
arrival of spring. We'll soon be able to shed our winter coats, open the
windows and breath the wonderful aromas that only this time of year can
bring. Along with the all of the new life that we welcome comes the unwelcome emergence of pests that can be irritating for us and for our four legged friends. Below is a chart of the flea and tick growth cycle in south central Iowa where the American Eskimo Rescue and Sanctuary is located. As you can see this is the time of year that pest activity starts to increase rapidly. |

| We are in the critical time when we need to
control these pests in their early stages, not only for the pets comfort,
but also for the health risks involved in an infestation. With new risks coming along almost yearly like West Nile virus and not knowing if bird flu can be transmitted through bug bites, like mosquitoes after they have bitten a bird, makes it even more imperative that we do everything in our power to keep our pets safe. Each pet is given a once a month Heartgard treatment for internal parasites. Along with the products listed below |
|
| Nylar: American Eskimo Rescue and Sanctuary of Iowa is on 4 Acres. 4 acres is 174240 square feet. At 1000 square feet per ounce we use 174 ounces or 10.8 pints of Nylar in our initial treatment of the out door area. What is Nylar ? We do also use pesticides (Ectiban WP and Bifenthrin) in conjunction with Nylar. But the use of Nylar, which is not a pesticide, creates a much safer environment for the animals with the maximum amount of control. Frontline: We have used over 200 frontline treatments per year in the past, and now with the introduction of the Frontline spray we will be able to cut almost half of the number of treatments this year using the new spray in between treatments. For anyone that purchases this product, a 50% savings is quite substantial. Please take this time to make a contribution to our 5th annual spring fundraiser for these products.
